Carbonara

...and herbed vegetables.

My elder sis and I attempted to teach my younger sis some very easy-peasy-dump-all-ingredients-in dish to treat her boyfriend for lunch today: Spaghetti carbonara and herbed vegetables.

1) Ingredients you need for your carbonara:
A packet of spaghetti (or any kind of pasta you desire - we bought the cheapest on the shelves)
A packet of whipping cream
A packet of abalone mushroom
10-15 slices of backbacon (or beef bacon, whichever you fancy)
Some butter
Some slices of cheese

2) As for the vegetables, well, ANY vegetables will do (cauliflower, broccoli etc as long as they are the crunchy and not leafy ones). We settled for some potatoes and carrots (peeled and cut). Season it with some Kikkoman sauce, coarse black pepper, rosemary (or chopped basil), a dash of olive oil and some water.

3) Pre-heat the oven to 220 celcius. Cover the tray of seasoned potatoes and carrots with aluminium foil. In it goes into the oven for an hour.

4) Chop the bacon slices finely, heat the wok, a dash of oil, fry half the portion under low heat till brown and crispy. Leave them aside.

5) Cook the spaghetti: Boil water in the pot, a dash of salt, a dash of oil, dump the spaghetti in when the water's boiling, boil for 3 minutes, turn off heat, leave the pot lid covered for a further 10-15 mins. Drain.

6) For the sauce: Heat the wok, 2 scoops of salted butter, in goes the whole packet of cream, stir, add some water, stir, salt to taste, stir, in goes 2 slices of cheddar cheese, stir till it melts, in goes the spaghetti, the rest of the bacon and abalone mushrooms. Stir and fry well.

Tada! Roasted vegetables after one hour.

Sccop noodles onto plate, place cheddar cheese on top as desired, sprinkle crunchy bacon bits and serve with roasted potatoes and carrots on the side. Tada! Lunch is ready.

Simple, innit?

My sister's boyfriend said it's yummy. Of course it's yummy. It's my younger sister's skill. *wink double wink*
