It gives me the creeps when someone calls or addresses me 'my dear'. Not 'dear'. Not 'my'. It's 'my dear'. Whole. Really, it reminds me of the big bad wolf.

"Grandma, grandma, why are your hands so big?"
"So it's better to hold you with, my dear."

"Grandma, grandma, why are your ears so big?"
"So it's better to hear you with, my dear."

"Grandma, grandma, why are your eyes so big?"
"So it's better to see you with, my dear."

Phobia. I can imagine that someone being a perverted kam yue low when he uses that endearment. Brrr!!
