Golf in the boot

Ever since I bought the Swift, I have been wondering about the capacity of the car boot space...

"Do you think you can fit your golf set in?" I pointed at my opened car boot one afternoon and asked KCG casually while we were both standing at the car porch. He stared at the boot for a while, went into the house for a bit, came out dragging his ultra-heavy, ultra-bulky golf set and plonked it into the boot.

Didn't go right in. "It can fit but must take out the driver and put on the back seat", he told me after seeing that the bag didn't fit comfortably into the boot. Feeling extremely puzzled, I repeated after him. Slowly. "Take.out.the.driver." "Hmm...then who gets behind the wheels?" I asked matter-of-factly.

KCG gave me a blank stare like I was the dumbess brunette on earth, chuckled to himself, went to his golf bag, pulled out a pouch-covered club and gave it to me. "Nah, the driver!"

%^&#@*! This is a driver? Some big-brain-thin-stick metal? Damn! Double damn!! "Come, let me get you a Golf for Dummies book," he teased, obviously tickled by the whole conversation out at the car porch. %^&#@*!

So there! A golf set sure can fit into the boot of a Swift. Just remove the driver, the longest club in the set used for teeing off, and wala! And the driver? Yea yea! Put it at the back seat. The driver drives the driver. Duh!

B.U.M 2008 Buzz

That was where I spent Labour's Day at. The Bloggers' Universe Malaysia B.U.M 2008 event held at Lake View Club, Subang Jaya.

Arrived around 11am to meet up with the rest of the organising committee and had a good hearty lunch at Kampungku Restaurant before the work began. There was specialty bamboo fish (sambal fish cooked in a bamboo), fried buttered calamari with salted egg, specialty homemade tofu with fish paste among others. It was very sedap! Thank you for the lunch.

Ranong & Phuket, Thailand

Gosh! Only 3 days left in April? Shocking how swift the days sneaked past me without a ruffle. A routine sort of fell into place for the past many weeks. There was inevitable work but even *that* was quite a slack as I had close to 20 annual leave days to clear BY end April. Then there was the pleasurable violin practises and classes, new songs and new positions. Then I was on Facebook regularly like how an addict would playing Scrabulous, Mental Blocks and Knighthood. Oh, please get me out of there! But what really was most routine was my very-busy-time over the weekends working on the biggest, most important event in my life. Heh! But that's another story altogether.

Now ... the highlight in April has to be my trip to Ranong and Phuket, Thailand between 3rd and 8th April. Sure you've heard of Phuket but where is Ranong, I hear you ask? Ah! Geographically, it's about 600km south from Bangkok or 300km north of Phuket or put simply, bordering southern Myanmar.

We arrived on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Phuket International Airport.

Rented a car for RM100 a day (for 6 days) to travel around. Works out cheaper this way. Wasted no time and were on our way to Ranong, about approx 4 hours away, arriving on a wet, rainy night.

The next morning, we set off to visit the statue of Khaw Soo Cheang, Rajah of Ranong (or Governor of Ranong). You may read its most interesting history here

As our trip coincided with Cheng Beng, the Festival of the Tombs, we also visited the the Governor's mausoleum. The hundred and fifty acres piece of land, on the outskirts of Ranong Town was given to his family by Rama V (King Chulalongkorn) to the family in perpetuity for use as its own private burial ground. My guess was that, this particular tomb land was more than 10 acres AND for EACH governor succeeding him thereafter. Hilly, well maintained, windy and good infrastructure (leading to different tombs of the Na Ranong clan).

"Wah, so much land for the dead, eh?" I queried with a squint of an eye under the hot sun. "But of course," came the answer. "They were the rulers of Ranong," he answered with much pride. "Highly respected in the country," he added. "Yes, make perfect sense to me," I acknowledged with a nod and searched for a shade under the trees.

We had one more night at Ranong to attend a gathering function of the current generations of Na Ranong, mostly the 5th and 6th generations, who travelled near and far to be here at this event, including us all the way from Malaysia. What has this got to do with Primrose, you ask? Ahh! Primrose's other half, KCG is the 6th generation of the Na Ranong Dynasty, that's what. So Primrose was there to make her presence known. *winks*

We were back to Phuket on Sunday evening and we went for a drive around lively Patong at night. Packed with tourist and loud music, we decided to drive to Tesco at the other end of town instead to explore its similarities with Tesco at home and bought some favourite local delicacies.

Explored a new shopping mall, Jungceylon, which was the name of Phuket back in 1511AD. Very modern architecture, displaying captivating junks which is their mascot and mall logo. The basement level offers a large array of local souvenirs, food stuff and massage services. Went for a cheap pedicure session after a long walk. I didn't stay very long as I have another place to spend my time at.

I hit Phuket Square instead. Now THIS is a place for the locals. It would be useful to know a few words in Thai like "how much" or "cheaper" to start bargaining for rock bottom prices for star buys.

Phuket Square was a compendium of hundreds of stalls of sorts, from clothes to shoes to bags to souvenirs. It was a shopper's haven, especially girls. It was a maze of streets, fully air-conditioned, spacious and comfortable. Only disadvantage: They don't speak much English. But I don't think we have a problem with that, do we? Just whip out your calculator and start punching numbers. :)

The trip came to an end on Tuesday and just before we hit the Phuket airport, we were invited by KCG's uncle, the owner of Indigo Pearl Resort, previously Pearl Village, for lunch. A 5th generation Na Ranong, he missed the gathering at Ranong and would like to meet up with us before we left Phuket.

This resort is, by far, one of the most exquisitely designed resort I have ever been to. Clad in blue gems with luscious landscape and a very unique concept of a tin mine (read history of Ranong), no wonder it is Phuket's Award Winning Design Resort.

After lunch, we had a tour of the resort including different types of rooms. Indigo Pearl has a very romantic bath area - different rooms with different bathrooms. No doors, all glass around, no raised flooring - it's like walking into another part of the bedroom except on cool marble.

Do we get to stay here the next time we visit Phuket? It is an assuring yes. All KCG has to do is to inform his uncle and we're well on our way there, very highly likely before the year is up!

All in all, it was a good trip to touch base with the Siamese side short of remembering too many names of the Na Ranong uncles, aunties and cousins. Apart from soaking up a good amount of history, I soaked up a bit too much tan too, which I wasn't too keen of. Oh well...

Knighthood addict

No, I didn't disappear from cyberspace. I got addicted. Addicted to a game. A game called Knighthood. Knighthood on FACEBOOK!!! Aaarrrghhh!!! You're right. Facebook, in itself is mighty addictive! Pfft! I've been spending hours and hours playing Knighthood for the past few weeks!

It's a game that lets you build your capital, recruit vassals who are your friends to "work" for you and go to war.

You gain a rank on the game and you gain power. The more vassals you have, the more powerful you become and the higher the rank you climb. You can also earn or steal gold coins. I love stealing!

You start off as a Handmaiden, then a Lady, then a Baroness, then a Viscountess, then a Countess, then a Duchess, then a Marquises, then a....[nobody actually got to a rank higher than a Marquis just yet]. Of course there's a male version too. You start off a Squire, then a Knight, then a Viscount, then a Count, then a Duke, then a Marquis...

I have spent many days and nights building my capital consisting of a marketplace (to do business and earn gold coins), a watchtower, wall and palisade (defenses), barracks (to go to war), hospital (to heal my vassals) and workshop (for workers to build).

Once your defenses are secure, you can then go to war. One can raid for gold coins (in another word, steal), seize a vassal to increase your power (in another word, kidnap) or conquer another (in another word, kill).

One can also join their powers and swear fealty to each other (in other words, collaborate and kill more!).

And I wake up every morning stressing over attacks! Thank goodness for strong wall, palisade and watchtower (in another word, defenses).

The higher the power increases, the more complicated the game gets. Isn't that always the case (in anything we do)? Sigh. Thanks to Wiki-knighthood-help for tips and strategies.

My knight is just about to begin. Come swear fealty to me and go to war!

This is interesting! My love for knighthood began when I started reading historical romances from the likes of Judith McNaught and Johanna Lindsey.

Limp Biscuits

My sister just returned from some parts of China and brought home some biscuits. I was in giggles this morning when I turned the pack around and read the description.

This biscuit is definitely limp in flavour, flat and a no-heat food. It's a beautiful food of lie fallow, old and young fitting and should eat with a cup of weak tea for longer taste. *ROTFLOL*

Can someone tell me if that was a DIRECT translation of this? What does it say?

After reading the description, I can't wait to see what the biscuits look and taste like.

Tada! I attest that this biscuit no include pigment and antiseptic, and drying over little fire.

Epilogue of 2007

I am on Chapter 12, page 364. I am trying to summon an ounce of inspiration to write the Epilogue for my novel. I have been sitting here for the past 3 hours, having read the Prologue and all of 12 chapters, reflecting on what was written and the chronology of events. My novel, 2007, is non-fiction and is based on a true story.

Flipping back the chapters, 2007 has treated me fairly well. Thanks to you Limpa, for the pair of rose quartz Mandarin Ducks. "Tie the ducks with a red string for love luck," you have advised me. With the compass you included in the box, I have indeed placed it in the southwest of my bedroom and after a couple of months, I think the ducks worked its quack. At last, I am not placed second to nothing but top priority. I am not just someone on stand-in to fill the blanks, instead, I felt belonged. No more empty promises, empty talks. No more waiting, no more uncertainty. The jigsaw fitted and I felt complete. I am happy.

As the chapters unveiled, many relationships found a way of being strengthened. Some unfortunate few met complete closure and faltered while some knots loosened and fell off the radar. A rare few are on the recovery while new ones are on the way to blossoming.

I conquered a lot more Musicals this year, I know, and I always say I'm no fan of movies. Actually I (still) am not but you know what? I caught up with 15 movies this year! It all started off with Blood Diamond, Flyboys, Babel, Blood & Chocolates, Ghost Rider, Mr Bean's Holiday, Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Transformers, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Simpsons Movie, Die Hard 4.0 and Hairspray - in that order and somewhere in between, Protége, before all movies stopped for the year. That was when I got busy and never had another chance to stop by the cinema. In-between chapters, I got myself DVD-addicted to dramas like Grey's Anatomy, occasionally House and Desperate Housewives too. And just last week, I watched all three episodes of cantonese drama, Infernal Affairs. Quite a good watch. And my highlight of the year? I finally watched the Lord of the Rings (Trilogy) which I have never attempted once when it was a craze. Holy Moly! Am I turning into a movie buff? Please stop me!

Although my novel doesn't mention much about work, it is an eye-opener to work in the government, for the government, under the purview of a ministry. I've learnt so much in terms of work ethics (or the lack of), jargons that the industry uses (that doesn't make much sense), the kind of ~~shit~~ work I do, ~~shit~~ people I meet and work for, ~~shit~~ stuff I know (at country level including minister preferences in fonts used!!). My work load is on an erratic scale. So is the pressure related to it, not forgetting the stress. Despite all that, I do see myself staying a while longer, all for the perks and benefits they offer. Enough said.

2007 also pushed me and tested my financial limits for a bit. I was finally bold enough to put all talk into action by trading off my old car for a new spanking red hot!. Did you think I could have done this alone? Hell, no! Thanks to those who have directly and indirectly helped me financially and non-financially tick off my wishlist for a new set of wheels. I recently also had the courage to finally put a booking for a condo unit I can call my very own. Roof over my head, I always say. You cannot imagine the hours I spent visiting showrooms and repeatedly falling in love with almost all of them before I finally decided on the one I wanted. Did you think I would reveal the location of my new roof? Hell, no! It's a secret.

With that in Chapters 10 and 11, there isn't much space left for documenting any major travels in the book although I did visit some beaches over some weekends and travelled down south to Singapore, twice. I hope 2008 will bring forth some interesting travels. Who knows, a honeymoon may be in order. *winks*

I finished the final sentence in Epilogue. I am satisfied. I sigh with self-content. It's now the wee hours of the final day of the year. I gladly close the cover of my novel. I have completed page 365. Coda.

Cheers to 2007 and welcome 2008. For me, it will be a new beginning. A new chapter.

Counting down

The past few weeks had been madness. I was kinda stressed out juggling my time between work and play. I finally had some time to put together some pictures taken from my phone and a one-liner update.

November
I had the opportunity to watch 'Chicago The Musical' held at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, on 7 November.

December
We took a drive to Lumut and hopped on a ferry to Pangkor Island last weekend 8-10 December. We stayed at the Pangkor Island Beach Resort, I caught up with some extra hours of sleep, burnt myself slightly under the sun, took in a lot of sea breeze and stuffed myself crazy. That's what beach holidays are for anyway. And I was stress-free for a while. It was a much needed break.

With less than 10 days away to Christmas and counting down, I rushed through my Christmas shopping this year and just managed to send out Christmas cards last week. Yup, I still send out real cards with a personal message through conventional post and lick the stamps.

The year is closing in and closing fast! Amidst all the Christmas cheers and jingle bells, take a wild minute to reflect on 2007. You might need to write about it come end December and it's a really good topic to talk about come New Year's day. *winks*

For the many hours I'm spending just staring at my computer screen, it is about time I did something to ease my eye strain.

Pretty green leaves in seashells planted in husks complete with a wire hanger

There, a close-up sideshot of the shell. Small and cute!

Conveniently hung. Meant for office cubicles.

Not only does it absorb the computer rays and adds a splash of green to the cubicle, at least it's a real eyesaver, not just a dummy swaying plant on the computer screen.

Swifting the highway

I've procrastinated long enough to post this up but as promised from the last post, here is the proof of my best birthday. *widest grin*

I've sold my 11-year-old, faithful green Toyota SEG 1.6

...for a brand new Suzuki Swift 1.5 in hot sexy red!!

Suzuki was supposed to make a birthday delivery. Unfortunately, excise duty took a longer time to clear than expected. Now you know why I've been so busy. The amount of thinking I did on which car to trade in for, was hard and long. After much deliberation and many visits to different car showrooms later, I've decided that this RM72,000 Suzuki Swift (CKD model) would give my front porch a blazing boost! So there! I've been SWIFTing the highway in blazing red for 2 weeks now.

Allow me to give a very brief review on the Swift:
1) The Swift is shorter in both length and height compared to the MyVi
2) 15" alloy rims, hence the stability compared to the MyVi
3) Exterior is nothing short of breathtaking
4) Safety features are great for single lady drivers: Dual airbags, ABS, EBD, driver-door-unlocking-only at one click of car controller
5) Front fog lamps
6) Boot opens by pushing a rubber button. Sleek indeed!
7) Fuel efficient
8) Interior as shown. Too lazy to describe its leather-wrapped steering, the built-in radio, the well-designed gear shift and the metre cluster

My overall take on the Swift? "You're gonna be a guy magnet," someone teased. So look out for cute lil' me when you notice a red Swift blazing past you on the highway. *winky winks*

Vanishing months

And thank you so, so very much dear bloggers for all the lovely wishes. Thank you dear friends for the text messages, phone calls, e-cards, sumptuous lunches and dinners, extravagant pressies, large angpau packets - this is my best birthday. My next post should proof my point too. *winks* Watch this space.

I have been extremely scarce these few months. I can't emphasize enough on how busy I am with various things and events happening in my life at this moment. Nonetheless, it's good progress.

I feel that the months of the year are always vanishing quickly once it hits mid-year. It would start with an upheaving climb uphill January, with very few public holidays right after February, pausing itself around March and April and dragging itself through May and June. But as July balances itself at the tip, it will start rolling itself downhill August, yanking the brakes around September before October sets in and before you know it, November just hides itself and present to us all, a happy white Christmas in December!!

Actually, I can't wait for Christmas. Release the brakes of October and accelerate to November, please. It's quite time to review how life is advancing...

Missing August

How time flies. Haven't really had the time to write a proper post since July but I know both my hands were quite tied up with a lot of random things in the past month.

To start off the update, my division had a weekend retreat for staff at Avillion, Port Dickson. I had some fun and gawd knows how much sun my body soaked up this year!

The many candid faces of Primrose
1. Yours truly was nominated the emcee for the retreat. Must have been one popular Primrose for that role
2. Listening very intensely at the Stress Management Workshop
3. Primrose was the chosen one to go into the water, so wear the life jacket!
4. Ughh! Hurry, I need to get out of the water. I need to reach the finishing line!
5. Futsal? Me dunno how to kick. Kick the sand then, I was told.

My 84-year-old grandpa took a fall and quite a bad fall at it. He got himself some stitches on his forehead, a black eye, some cuts on his arms and legs, and a broken hip bone. I played nurse on weekends, if not on weekdays and he's now recovering in the hospital after a hip operation - inserted metal plates in support of the broken bone. Ouch! Aged people out there, never never fall. Young people out there, drink milk!

Then as how the bugs spores out in the weather, I had a throat infection, which gave me a fever, which led to a cough. Completely lost my voice for two days, and am still croaking with dry coughs in-between.

I've been sucking on those blinkin lozenges and strepsils but to no avail. My chest hurts from all the coughing, someone HELP!!!

I was beginning to feel the pressures at work lately. Up to a point where I had symptoms of a panic attack, close to a nervous breakdown. Not a very good piece of news but I switched modes and adopted a can't-be-bothered attitude to calm the nerves. Should things go bad, I'd simply fling a resignation letter and leave. Simple as that, no?

Sakae Sushi had a buy-one-free-one promotion with Citibank credit card holders in the whole month of August.

Just the red plates which cost RM5.90 each on a normal day, now two for the price of one. And as a fan of salmon, oh my! I was stuffing myself silly with red plates at least once a week, twice at the most, three times on the final week!!

So there! Doesn't seem very much but I swear it was July yesterday and it's September today. Where was August?

PrincEss, once upon a time you emailed an easy remedy for what you now have. Remember the advice about Vicks VapoRub on the soles of your feet at night, wearing socks to bed? It sounds like you need to try it.

If you do dump your job, think about a new career in Hollywood. You are always, and naturally, more stunningly pretty than anyone they have over there. You'd be popular in movies.

Hey Char, no good taking pills. So young. Try almond milk with honey *winks* It helps unclog the nose if you've got flu, soothes the throat if it's sore and calms the nerves for insomniacs.
